Refill your old water bottle instead of buying new ones

We have all seen those horrific pictures of sea life choking on plastic and beaches that look like land fill sites. You have probably sighed and wished you could do something to help, but now you can.

MaidenheadMatters, a group of volunteers, have brought the Refill project to Maidenhead.

Maidenhead Matters volunteers signing Maidenhead up to Refill!

Refill is a simple idea where local restaurants and cafés offer to fill up people’s reusable water bottles for free. Not only does this reduce the need for single use plastic bottles, but the businesses benefit from being listed in the Refill app and may even encourage more people into their establishments.

The scheme is spreading quickly throughout the UK. Successful projects are already up and running in local towns like Henley, Abingdon and Didcot, with more coming on stream all the time.

This is especially important for river towns, like Maidenhead, as any rubbish that makes its way into our river may end up being swept into the sea.

The free Refill app, available for download, shows a location sensitive map with your nearest Refill points.

We’re so excited that Maidenhead is joining the Refill movement and making a real difference by reducing reliance on single-use plastics. Every time we refill a re-usable bottle we save our own money and the planet’s resources, and all those individual refills add up to a huge impact. It’s great to see so many local businesses supporting Refill Maidenhead by signing up to provide free refills.” Mala Nathan, Refill Regional Coordinator, Refill
